Richard Hardwick read Botany at Trinity Hall; taught at London University
and then researched plant physiology for the Agricultural Research Council.
Richard came across Theoria to Theory in the University Library at Utrecht while on sabbatical there in the late ’70s or early ’80s. He wrote to the Editorial Board and was invited to come to a Mill. Richard moved to Brussels as senior administrator in
the European Commission (Directorate General for Agriculture), but continued to attend meetings of the EPs and eventually became member of the EPs.

Richard’s elder son lived in one of the cabins at Marion Close
while studying art at Cambridge Tech.
